Q. Do I have to live in Ontario to be part of this club?
A. No! Don’t let the name Ontario Race Walkers (ORW) fool you! Some of our athletes live outside Ontario and communicate virtually with the coaches. Joining ORW means connecting with a diverse group of athletes living across Canada. However, there will be opportunities to meet the team and the coaches in person when you compete in Race Walking events.
Q. Wow! This sounds like you have to be in tip top shape to be part of this club.
A. Our members are at all levels of fitness and ability. The coach will work with you to develop a specific program to meet your ability and level of fitness. But watch out! You may find yourself getting into great shape fast.
Q. So, it sounds like members compete. Where are the races held?
A. Yes, many members enjoy completion. Events are held locally, nationally and internationally. It’s a great way to travel and stay fit! But you don’t have to compete if you don’t want to.
The next World Masters Athletics (WMA) is being held in Toronto, Canada in 2020.

Q. Do I have to know how to Race Walk to join?
A. No, but be willing to learn! We have folks of all ages and abilities in our club. Many people come out a few times to learn the Race Walking technique and see if they like it before they join. Although most people can learn to Race Walk, it is a technical sport so be prepared for it to take a bit of time to learn.
Q. I’m too old to learn to Race Walk.
A. Nope! Our oldest member is 86 years young. You aren’t too old!
Q. Maybe I’m too young then?
A. We welcome young people too. Stafford, the coach, manages the Junior Development Program for Athletics Canada. A couple of people from our club have gone on to compete at the Olympics!
Q. How do I join?
A. Go to contact us. Send us a note and we’ll get back to you asap.
